Division E Final Results: Bosah Prevails by Spread
Division E finished with a tight race at the top, a separate high-win prize, and three players ending on identical 5.0-2.0 records. The final standings came down to spread, where Chukwuemeka Bosah held off Mitch Mathias and Craig Bushman for first place.
Bosah wins Division E on spread
The final Division E standings were decided by win-loss record first, then spread. That made every point matter in the closing round.
Bosah entered the final accounting with a 5.0-2.0 mark and the best spread among the players tied for first. His last game was a 358-330 win over Kerner, a result that both secured his fifth win and protected his lead in spread.
The margin was not huge, but it was enough. With Mathias also winning his final game, Bosah needed both the victory and enough spread cushion to stay in front. His +236 total gave him first place and the $150 top prize.
Mathias finished second at 5.0-2.0 with a +215 spread. He closed strongly with a 436-314 win over Connie Breitbeil, the biggest last-round win among the top three. That result moved him within striking distance of the top spot, but Bosah’s total remained just ahead.
Bushman took third at 5.0-2.0 with a +164 spread. His final-round 346-307 win over C Donna Courtney gave him the same record as the top two players and locked up the last place-prize position.
Final place prize standings
The place prizes went to the top three players in the final standings. All three finished at 5.0-2.0, with spread deciding the order.
Place | Player | Record | Spread | Prize |
1st | Chukwuemeka Bosah | 5.0-2.0 | +236 | $150 |
2nd | Mitch Mathias | 5.0-2.0 | +215 | $75 |
3rd | Craig Bushman | 5.0-2.0 | +164 | $50 |
The closeness of the spread totals gave the top of Division E a tense finish. Bosah’s first-place margin over Mathias was only 21 spread points, while Bushman finished 72 points behind Bosah.
That kind of finish shows why late-round point totals matter even after a win is secure. A player can win the game but still lose ground in the standings if the margin is not enough.
Baney earns the high win prize
Baney’s tournament had one of the more interesting profiles in the division. He finished fourth at 4.0-3.0, outside the place prizes, but his +284 spread was the best in the entire division.
That spread was powered in large part by his Round 5 result against Kerner. Baney won that game 507-316, a 191-point margin, to claim the High Win Out of the Place Prize Money award worth $20.
Round | Winner | Score | Loser | Margin | Prize |
5 | Pete Baney | 507-316 | Diane Kerner | 191 | $20 |
The award was specifically for a high win by a player outside the place-prize money. Since Baney finished fourth, his Round 5 performance qualified. It gave him a payout despite missing the top three.
Round 7 results shaped the final table
The last round produced four decisive outcomes. Bosah, Mathias, Bushman, and Stock all won, and those results determined the final ranking.
