Division A Final Results Meller and Krafchick Lead the Standings
Division A finished with a tight race at the top, as Mack Meller and Joey Krafchick both closed at 6.0-1.0. Meller took first place on spread, finishing at +340, while Krafchick landed just behind at +309 after a strong final-game win.
The top two were separated by only 31 spread points, which made every point across the event matter. Jeff Fiszbein claimed third place at 4.0-3.0 with a healthy +245 spread, completing the paid place positions.
Meller wins the division on spread
Meller’s final record matched Krafchick’s at six wins and one loss, but his stronger cumulative spread carried him to the top of the Division A standings. That margin held even after Krafchick defeated him in their last game, 479-344.
That result made the finish more interesting. Krafchick earned the head-to-head win and narrowed the gap, but Meller’s earlier scoring cushion was enough to protect first place. Meller continues his amazing 2026 performance, which included the 2026 Scrabble Players Championship, colloquially known as the US Nationals.
The final place prizes were:
Place | Player | Record | Spread | Prize |
First | Mack Meller | 6.0-1.0 | +340 | $150 |
Second | Joey Krafchick | 6.0-1.0 | +309 | $75 |
Third | Jeff Fiszbein | 4.0-3.0 | +245 | $50 |
The standings show how valuable spread can be when the win-loss column does not settle the order. Meller and Krafchick were almost even in results, but Meller’s overall point margin made the difference.
Krafchick closes with the strongest final statement
Krafchick’s last game was the biggest result among the leaders. His 479-344 win over Meller gave him a decisive finish and confirmed that the top two were closely matched.
A 135-point win in the final round was enough to make the standings close, but not enough to flip first and second. Krafchick still finished comfortably ahead of the rest of the field, with a two-win gap over the third-place group.
For Krafchick, the final round did two things:
It secured second place outright among players at the top.
It cut deeply into Meller’s spread lead.
It gave him the best closing performance among the top finishers.
Even in second place, Krafchick ended the event with one of the standout wins of the division.
Fiszbein takes third as the middle of the table tightens
Jeff Fiszbein finished third at 4.0-3.0, ahead of Josh Kopczak, who had the same record but a lower spread. Fiszbein closed at +245, while Kopczak finished at -131.
Their final game was close. Kopczak defeated Fiszbein 404-400, a four-point result that mattered in the head-to-head column but did not change the third-place prize result. Fiszbein’s spread advantage was far too large for that narrow loss to cost him the spot.
That final score was one of the sharpest examples of how the standings can tell two stories at once. Kopczak won the game, but Fiszbein’s full-event performance still earned the higher finish.
Charlson earns the high-win prize
Trenton Charlson picked up the $20 High Win Out of the Place Prize Money award with a major Round 2 victory over Patrick Beatrez.
Round | Winner | Score | Loser | Score | Prize |
2 | Trenton Charlson | 545 | Patrick Beatrez | 310 | $20 |
Charlson’s 545-310 win was the largest qualifying high win outside the place prize money. Although he finished sixth overall at 2.0-5.0, that Round 2 score stood out across the division.
The result also gave Charlson a rare statistical split. Despite a losing record, he finished with a positive spread of +11, helped in large part by that 235-point win.
