Cowtown Standings After Round 4: Leaders and Movers in Divisions D Through F
Four games in, Cowtown Scrabble Tourney has crowded races in Divisions D, E, and F. Several players share the same records, but spread is doing plenty of work near the top of each table.
Division F has the widest separation at the top, with four players sitting at 3.0-1.0 and Prince Barlow leading by a huge spread. Division E also has a three-way race at 3.0-1.0, while Division D remains tightly packed after a result that put Joshua Ruark and David Gill level on wins.
Here is the current picture across Divisions D through F, with key last-game results and the standings implications.
Division D stays tight after a three-point swing at the top
Division D has no runaway leader yet. Joshua Ruark remains in first at 3.0-1.0 with a strong +259 spread, but David Gill closed the gap in the standings by beating Ruark 380-377 in the latest round.
That result matters because it gave Gill the same 3.0-1.0 record as Ruark. The difference is spread. Ruark still holds a 354-point edge in spread over Gill, which keeps him in the top spot despite the head-to-head loss.
Rank | Player | Record | Spread | Last game |
1 | Joshua Ruark | 3.0-1.0 | +259 | Lost 377-380 vs. David Gill |
2 | David Gill | 3.0-1.0 | -95 | Won 380-377 vs. Joshua Ruark |
3 | Karrie Bowe | 2.0-2.0 | +55 | Won 396-331 vs. Tina Yates |
4 | Chris Sitler | 2.0-2.0 | +30 | Lost 323-466 vs. Ed Bowe |
5 | Andrew Wade | 2.0-2.0 | -10 | Won 376-341 vs. Cecilia Huber |
6 | Ed Bowe | 2.0-2.0 | -49 | Won 466-323 vs. Chris Sitler |
7 | Cecilia Huber | 1.0-3.0 | -95 | Lost 341-376 vs. Andrew Wade |
7 | Tina Yates | 1.0-3.0 | -95 | Lost 331-396 vs. Karrie Bowe |
The biggest move in Division D came from Ed Bowe, who posted the division’s highest last-game score with a 466-323 win over Chris Sitler. That win pulled Bowe to 2.0-2.0 and trimmed some of the spread damage from earlier rounds.
Karrie Bowe also improved to 2.0-2.0 with a solid 396-331 win over Tina Yates. With a +55 spread, Karrie Bowe sits ahead of the other 2.0-2.0 players and remains close enough to challenge the leaders.
Andrew Wade’s 376-341 win over Cecilia Huber gives him an even record as well. The middle of this division is packed, with four players at 2.0-2.0 separated by just 104 spread points.
Division D takeaway: Ruark still has control on spread, but Gill’s head-to-head win keeps the race open. The next key battle is likely among the 2.0-2.0 group, where one strong game could change the order quickly.
Division E has three leaders and one clear spread advantage
Division E has a clean top tier after four games. Craig Bushman, Mitch Mathias, and Diane Kerner all stand at 3.0-1.0. Bushman leads the group with a +181 spread after a commanding 439-307 win over Chukwuemeka Bosah.
Mathias is close behind at +160. His latest result, a 355-340 win over Pete Baney, was much tighter but just as useful in the standings. Kerner also moved to 3.0-1.0 with a 343-294 win over Connie Breitbeil.
Rank | Player | Record | Spread | Last game |
1 | Craig Bushman | 3.0-1.0 | +181 | Won 439-307 vs. Chukwuemeka Bosah |
2 | Mitch Mathias | 3.0-1.0 | +160 | Won 355-340 vs. Pete Baney |
3 | Diane Kerner | 3.0-1.0 | +38 | Won 343-294 vs. Connie Breitbeil |
4 | Pete Baney | 2.0-2.0 | +121 | Lost 340-355 vs. Mitch Mathias |
5 | Chukwuemeka Bosah | 2.0-2.0 | +25 | Lost 307-439 vs. Craig Bushman |
6 | Connie Breitbeil | 2.0-2.0 | -115 | Lost 294-343 vs. Diane Kerner |
7 | Joyce Stock | 1.0-3.0 | -135 | Won 390-342 vs. C Donna Courtney |
8 | C Donna Courtney | 0.0-4.0 | -275 | Lost 342-390 vs. Joyce Stock |
Bushman’s win was the strongest statement in the division. The 132-point margin pushed him past Mathias for first place and gave him the best spread among the 3.0-1.0 trio.
Baney still has a good position at 2.0-2.0 because of a +121 spread. Even after the close loss to Mathias, that positive spread keeps him within reach if one of the leaders slips.
Joyce Stock also picked up an important first win, beating C Donna Courtney 390-342. Stock remains seventh, but the result prevents the bottom from fully separating and keeps pressure on the middle group.
Division E takeaway: Bushman, Mathias, and Kerner share the lead by record, but Bushman’s spread gives him the current edge. Baney is the strongest 2.0-2.0 challenger.
Division F is crowded at the top, but Barlow has the biggest cushion
Division F has the most dramatic spread picture. Four players are tied at 3.0-1.0, but Prince Barlow’s +526 spread gives him a major lead over the rest of the field.
Barlow’s 537-150 win over Christina Ruark was the standout result across Divisions D through F. It added a 387-point margin and made him the clear leader, even with three other players matching his record.
Rank | Player | Record | Spread | Last game |
1 | Prince Barlow | 3.0-1.0 | +526 | Won 537-150 vs. Christina Ruark |
2 | Keith Pringle | 3.0-1.0 | +324 | Won 380-258 vs. Linda Nervis |
3 | Linda Nervis | 3.0-1.0 | +283 | Lost 258-380 vs. Keith Pringle |
4 | Teresa Stone | 3.0-1.0 | +209 | Won 359-300 vs. Carley Lauer |
5 | Marc Arenberg | 2.0-2.0 | +208 | Won 399-244 vs. Curtis Nash |
6 | Curtis Nash | 2.0-2.0 | -59 | Lost 244-399 vs. Marc Arenberg |
7 | Carley Lauer | 0.0-4.0 | -496 | Lost 300-359 vs. Teresa Stone |
8 | Christina Ruark | 0.0-4.0 | -995 | Lost 150-537 vs. Prince Barlow |
Keith Pringle also made a major move with a 380-258 win over Linda Nervis. That flipped the order between the two, putting Pringle second at +324 and Nervis third at +283.
Teresa Stone stayed in the leading pack with a 359-300 win over Carley Lauer. Stone sits fourth because of spread, but at 3.0-1.0 she remains right in the race.
Marc Arenberg may be the most interesting player outside the top four. His 399-244 win over Curtis Nash lifted him to 2.0-2.0 with a +208 spread, just one point behind Stone’s +209. That spread keeps Arenberg close despite having one fewer win.
Division F takeaway: Barlow has the record and the spread to control the division for now. Pringle, Nervis, and Stone are still close by record, while Arenberg has the spread profile of a player who can climb fast.
Biggest last-game results across the three divisions
A few results shaped the standings more than others:
Prince Barlow over Christina Ruark, 537-150
The largest margin listed and the key reason Barlow owns a +526 spread.
Ed Bowe over Chris Sitler, 466-323
A major Division D result that pulled Bowe back to 2.0-2.0 and tightened the middle standings.
Craig Bushman over Chukwuemeka Bosah, 439-307
A strong Division E win that pushed Bushman into first place by spread.
David Gill over Joshua Ruark, 380-377
The narrowest high-impact result, giving Gill a share of the Division D lead by record.
What the standings show now
After four games, spread is separating the top contenders more than record alone. Division D has two players at 3.0-1.0, Division E has three, and Division F has four.
The leaders are clear for now:
Division | Current leader | Record | Spread |
D | Joshua Ruark | 3.0-1.0 | +259 |
E | Craig Bushman | 3.0-1.0 | +181 |
F | Prince Barlow | 3.0-1.0 | +526 |
The main takeaway is simple. Wins have created the top groups, but spread is deciding the order. Ruark, Bushman, and Barlow hold first place, yet none of the three divisions is settled. One strong win, or one heavy loss, could shift the picture quickly.
