Event Flyer:

Sanctioned by NASPA and sponsored by NASPA Club No. 454. NASPA membership required.

The location in the Cleveland exurb of Brunswick, Ohio, gives a lot of advantages:

• The playing room is large and friendly; I only heard positive comments about it from players at the 2026 event!

• We can now fit up to 64 players comfortably!

• The capacity allows us to qualify as a Scrabble Players Championship [SPC] Satellite Event, meaning we can give away a free entry to the 2027SPC if we have 50 or more players!

• Everyone gets to play in the same room!

• There is even a patio available for outdoor play, weather and opponents permitting!

• There are plenty of restrooms, both ones devoted to the meeting room and additional ones nearby off the hotel lobby!

• The hotel is high-rated and is all suites!

• The price for guest rooms at the hotel has gone down from the 2026 event!

• Dozens of restaurants are available within a mile of the playing site!

• Runners and walkers will enjoy the mile-long running path around Brunswick Lake, just across the street from the hotel!

• Those desiring a longer run or walk can take the new Plum Creek Greenway to Plum Creek Park and back for a five-mile excursion!

The time frame – April 3-4, 2027 – means the likelihood of winter weather is considerably lower than it would be for traditional March dates, and we won’t lose an hour on Saturday night as we did some years!

All attendees are requested to be fully vaccinated for COVID and flu per medical recommendations.

FORMAT: 13 games, “Zap” pairings – modified round-robin groups of 12-20. Ask Dan for details.

SCHEDULE:

Saturday: Registration 9:00 - 9:15. Seven games start at 9:30; lunch is after three games.

Sunday: Six games starting at 9:00; lunch after four games.

EVENING: Evening events include the WORDSTOCK Music and Scrabble Contest (a combination of Scrabble endgame puzzles and music trivia), Scrabble-parody karaoke, and informal games. The document attached below provides more details about the WORDSTOCK.

HOTEL ROOMS: Rooms are available for players on Friday and Saturday nights at $137 + tax a night (king or a double-queen suite). To reserve at these rates by the cutoff date of March 3, either use this hotel-block link, or call the hotel directly at 330-558-9961 and ask for the “Scrabble” block.

LOCATION: South of the Giant Eagle that is nearly a mile west of the Brunswick exit (#226) of Interstate 71.

COLORS: Green originally for St. Patrick’s Day (though we are late this year). Purple because Dan likes it.

TABLEAU: The tableau at the top of the event flyer uses all 100 tiles, and fits neatly on alternate rows of a standard board. Accordingly, it can be used to check that your tile set is correct and complete.

ENTRY FEE:

$80 if payment and entry form received by March 25; $90 if received by April 1.

$100 cash only at the door if space available – walk-ins must arrive by 9:15.

LIMITATION: Due to space considerations, only the first 64 entries can be accepted.

PRIZES: Up to $25 from each entry fee to expenses; the rest all goes toward prizes.

Top NWL division will be subsidized as needed to guarantee a first-place prize of $500.
