NASPA Club #653 (Akron) and NASPA Club #454 (Rocky River) have joined together to provide the first ever "Nationals Tune Up" Scrabble tournament in Northeast Ohio. The Local Club Tournaments begin with a morning event sponsored by the Akron club, consisting of 6 rounds of play, with the first five rounds paired modified Swiss (avoiding repeats as much as possible) and the final round paired king-of-the hill (allowing repeats). Pairings are subject to change based on attendance. The entry fee of $10 (pay at the door only) includes snacks and lunch. Only pride and ratings points are on the line - there will be no cash prizes. Dallas Johnson will direct.
After a brief dinner break for the day players, the festivities continue with an evening, 4 game event hosted by the Rocky River Scrabble Club. Dan Stock will direct the evening event. The pairing method will be similar to the pairings for the earlier tourney, except that the final king-of-the-hill round may also avoid repeats -- and again, the pairing method is subject to change based on the number of attendees.
